DARK KNIGHT OSCAR DREAMS?
When the new Batman movie "The Dark Night" began
screenings last month before its U.S. debut on Friday, some moviegoers saw Heath Ledger as an instant Oscar candidate as the deranged villain, The Joker.
But Oscar watchers and veteran critics say the joke may be on fans creating mostly Internet-based buzz
because an Academy Award for the Australian actor, who died of an accidental drug overdose in January, would be a rare event.
Only one actor has won an Oscar after death, Peter Finch for 1976's "Network."
Thank You Matthew Peak
June 6th
The June Norcal meeting was awesome event as we welcomed Matthew
Peak, a visionary artist in his own right whose poster art has created iconic imagery for some very well know properties
such as the MATRIX, SIN CITY, LOST and the recent Sacramento Film Festival Feature, Finding Kraftland.
Mr Peak is also a painter known for his imaginative
allegorical and literary works. He paints beautiful, moody landscapes and figurative compositions that reflect his interest
in Symbolist art and turn-of-the-century American illustration. Peak's father was the famous American illustrator Bob Peak
(1927 - 1992), so he grew up in an artistic milieu. Although he was not certain about a career as an artist, Peak served an
apprenticeship with his father and then furthered his training at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Art Center
College of Design in Pasadena, and finally the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League in New York.

Indie GOGO: where it happens
IndieGoGo is an online social marketplace connecting filmmakers and fans to make
independent film happen. The platform provides filmmakers the tools for project funding, recruiting, and promotion,
while enabling the audience to discover and connect directly with filmmakers and the causes they support.
Founded
on the principles of opportunity, transparency, choice, and action, IndieGoGo launched in 2008 to address the fundraising
challenges and market inefficiencies affecting independent filmmaking today. They've already created funding for two
projects! Thanks to the the company's CFO Danae Ringelmann for visiting us on May 2nd.
